Phinda Private Game Reserve is located between the white sands of the Indian Ocean and the Greater Saint Lucia Wetland Park, recently declared by UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the private park there are six individual lodges, each one the very maximum in luxury and each differing from the other in both layout and position. Phinda Rock Lodge possesses 6 spacious suites and sumptuous bathrooms carved into a precipice, overlooking the spectacular Leopard Rock. From the private terrace and indeed from the swimming pool within each suite, guests are rewarded with a series of breathtaking panoramic views over the whole plain.
Cocktails prepared from the private bar within each suite simply add to the effect. Meals are prepared according to the traditions of pan-African cuisine. The food is served entirely at the guests discretion, either in the privacy of their own suite or in the dining room of the lodge. Exploring the abundant animal life and nature round about is the highlight of each day.

Vamizi Island Lodge and its endless sea

Vamizi Island lodge is built on the northern side of the island and looks towards Rongui from the end of a long powder-sand beach. The lodge comprises ten separate beach houses, each with its own large living room, spectacular bathroom and breezy veranda. The houses look out to sea from the shade of the forest that forms the centre of the island. The décor of the Vamizi lodge incorporates as much of the traditional design of the region as possible. The bathrooms have a solid slab of marble forming the wall of the shower, and hand-carved screens which provide the privacy and aesthetic detail of a Zanzibar palace. The bedrooms have king-size beds – four-posters – with free-standing frames draped in beautiful natural muslin mosquito nets. The outside decks and private beaches have a selection of loungers, swinging beds and local ‘Swahili day beds’ to chose from, to encourage guests to relax wherever they wish.

Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated deep in the heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve. The reserve is exceptional not only for the large number of different natural habitats it possesses but also for the prodigious number of species of wild animal that it holds. The lodge is perched high up on the slope of two adjacent hills, both of which command wide breathtaking views of the plain below. The lodge is built almost entirely out of wood and stone, creating a series of warm, romantic tones. 16 suites are divided between 3 elegant camps. Each suite contains a bathroom, an outside shower and a swimming pool. The suites are stylishly furnished using a combination of wood, local sculpture and different fabrics in earth colours. More striking still are the large windows, which, given the interminable vistas, the purple mountains in the distance and the green thread of the River Marico below, look more like oil paintings.
